My Etsy shop is open for business

This weekend, I decided to finally open up my Etsy shop for business. I opened up an account over a year ago but never went back to open up a shop of my own.

I only have a few items there now while I am still figuring things out. This is an example of one of the Mini Masters ornaments that is posted for sale. If you are interested, check it out and let me know what you think. And if you have any Etsy advice, tips, or tricks, please pass them along. I'd love to hear about others' experiences selling (and buying) there.

A study in sepia tones

Like mother, like son
8" x 10"
Oil with a palette knife on canvas
NFS

It's amazing how rusty you can get when you don't paint for awhile. I decided that perhaps this study in sepia tones might be a good transition back. Haydi gave me a copy of this great old photo that she thought would be a fun palette knife painting, and it was. I was having fun mixing colors to get a variety of values and tones. Despite the monochromatic look, I used many different colors to get these tones. So many I don't think I even remember them all!

Back in Boston

I'm back after a weeklong road trip with my Dad and ready to start painting again. Took a lunch trip over to the Boston Transportation Building to see this year's Scholastic Art show but forgot to take photos. You can see a few select pieces by clicking on that link. Very inspiring student work as always!

Richeson 75 International Small Works Show

I was so excited to have received the catalog for the Richeson 75 International Small Works Show in the mail recently. It is a beautifully printed book and the artwork in it is fantastic.

Below on the righthand page is my painting that was selected as a finalist in the show, Back Bay Stepsisters.

The other painting I submitted, City of Gold, was honored with a Meritorious Entry nod and appears on this spread in the bottom right.

On the flyleaf, they show the winners in each category. Really great work.

The exhibit will be up through the month of March at the Richeson Art Gallery in Kimberly, Wisconsin. But you can also see the entire exhibit online by going to the Richeson website.

Clearing Mist

Clearing Mist
8" x 8" x 1.5"
Oil with a palette knife on cradled board
$160 unframed

I had an urge to paint something that had no perspective, no lines, and no windows. Just large expanses of color that I could really attack with the palette knife. I think I finished this painting in less than an hour. Really freeing.
