Biking on the Boardwalk

Biking on the Boardwalk
18" x 18" x 1.5"
Oil with a palette knife on Blick Studio Artist Board
SOLD

I revisited this painting that has been sitting unfinished for awhile now. I wanted to brighten the color of the boardwalk and also accentuate the shadows so that you could see my dad taking the photograph in the bottom right which I think is pretty cool. I also painted in the white border so that I could add the date in on the side like old photos used to have. That's my mom on the far right but everyone thinks she is a cousin because she looks so young!

Looking back at my previous post about this painting  it was almost exactly 2 years ago. Wow. Click here to the read the older post about it.

Start of a new series based on family photos

Mommy and Me
24" x 6" x 2"
Oil with a palette knife on Ampersand Gessobord
SOLD

I am really excited to start a new series of paintings based on some old family photos. I painted this one this past weekend and I have 5 others planned, prepped, and ready to go. It's been awhile since the last series and I am so anxious to get them all done. I also love this unique size from Ampersand. All the paintings in the series won't be this size, but I may have to purchase a few more because this was so much fun.

Here are a few close up shots that show the color and the texture of the palette knife a little better.

Cape Cod Sunrise

Good Morning, Cape Cod
6" x 8"
Oil with a palette knife on canvas board
SOLD

I am not a morning person, but last summer while vacationing on Cape Cod I saw this beautiful sunrise coming up through the window and had to get out of bed to take some photos. And yesterday, I finally got around to painting it. Of course, after I was done taking photos, I climbed right back into bed. I was on vacation afterall!

Happy summer, everyone. It's finally here.

A little Christmas in June

The Red Inn in Winter II
Oil with a palette knife on Ampersand Gessobord
6" x 18" x 2"
SOLD

Bob saw the SOLD first version I did of this painting hanging at The Red Inn last month and commissioned one of his own. I have to say it was a little weird painting a snow scene while it was 85 degrees outside. While I am not a fan of winter, I don't mind the snow during the holidays. It makes the lights look that much prettier.

Beach Buoys

Beach Buoys
8" x 8"
Oil with a palette knife on Blick Studio Artist Board
SOLD

Another painting done from a great photo that John Jay took while in Provincetown. I loved the abstract reflections in the window and the colorful pile of buoys. I might have to paint this one again larger!

I found out that this is of one of the Provincetown dune shacks called Tasha's Dune Shack. Here is a great photo of it taken by photographer Christopher Seufert.

Can you imagine spending several weeks at this place? I think it would be an incredible experience.
