Red Inn season

Red Inn with Peonies III

11" x 14"

Oil with palette knives on board

It's Red Inn season! It's that time of year when this beautiful place opens for the summer and I create paintings for their customers to enjoy. I have painted so many paintings of the inn over the years that I decided to start keeping track of exactly how many I have done. This is number 65. Wow!

Sweet yellow home with hydrangeas

Lavender Shade

12" x 9"

Oil with palette knives on board

This is the first in a series of paintings that focus on the beautiful homes that can be found in Newport Rhode Island. I was struggling to come up with a title for this painting so I decided to ask AI for some ideas. Its first suggestion was this one, Lavender Shade. I was impressed with the list of suggestions it gave me. I guess that's one good use of AI that I can see right now.

Kim from the Charlestown Gallery in Rhode Island saw some of the signs I had done on Instagram and asked if I could create some for popular Rhode Island towns. Previously, I had painted signs from Green Hill Beach, Charlestown, and Quonochontaug. These two will be added to the collection when the gallery opens next weekend.

An old commission revisited

Siblings

10" x 10"

Oil with palette knives on board

One of my first commissions when I started painting with palette knives was for Denise back in 2009. It was a gift for her younger sister. This year, she wanted me to paint from the same picture as a gift for her brother.

If you look back at the earlier painting (below) you can see that my style has changed quite dramatically in 16 years. With practice, my technique with the palette knife has gotten more refined. Interesting, right?

Here is the photo that these paintings were based on. So cute.

I've painted these Entering Provincetown signs many. many times now but this series is unique in that it features the 3 lighthouses that grace the beautiful coastline in Provincetown: Wood End, Long Point, and Race Point. Which is your favorite?
