I've been staring at this painting for over a week now wondering if the color I used for the sky is right. During critique, some fellow artists thought it could be a little brighter or darker. So I did an experiment in Photoshop trying out different options before I actually committed to changing it. Of course these won't show the palette knife texture, but it helps to show different values and shades of blues.
Bright blue
Soft blue
Grey day
It's interesting to see how it changes the feel of the painting, isn't it? I would love to hear your thoughts.

Hi Ann - First off, I love this painting. The strokes & colors of the buildings really works well and gives the whole painting a bit of character. Now the sky - this is very interesting. The sky (it's color, clouds) can affect the whole painting and it really depends on the mood you want to set. I happen to like the last one, Grey day, but that may be because today was greyish out and it seems to match. Love seeing how all the different blues look - Photoshop can be a very valuable tool! - Nan
Never ever used photoshop but if the end result was to be as marvellous as this then sounds like an idea.
How cool that you have this tool, Ann. To be quite honest, I like the original blue. In the summer, the sky often looks like a more washed out blue to me, not as intense. The bottom blue also looks more realistic to me, so either the top or the bottom photos look the best to my old eyes. I love how you've added people to this scene on the sidewalk. It adds so much life and energy to a most beautiful cityscape! Amazing work!
And my two cents: The second to last one. :)
It'll be interesting to see which will win out.
And the title is fabulous, by the way.
SEDRO!
I like the "gray" sky. But, what I'd like to see, is some of that gray blue in your sidewalk. The cool in the sidewalk would lead to the cool in the roof and then to the cool of the sky. It would break up the warm of the building, sidewalk and street. However, it's just an opinion. LOL
another beautiful painting! i'm going to have to go with the 2nd to last one - but they really all look good...really depends on your mood, i guess. i just like the bright, yet soft, blue of that one :) which one did you end up with??
The grey day is the best in my opinion. I feel like the color of the sky mimics the angle and shade of all the shadows. Great job.
