A masterpiece in frosting

Last Friday night was the reception for the Just Desserts show at Gallery 9 in Norwood. In addition to submitting a painting, artists were encouraged to bring a dessert that was inspired by their submission. I had always wanted to try my hand at "painting" a masterpiece on a cake with frosting. A logical transition for a palette knife painter, don't you think? Well, here it is...

My first Ann Gogh:

Here is a close up after the first few bites were enjoyed:
Which masterpiece do you think would look good frosted on a cake?

Amazing painting and fun! Great idea. Did you use palette knives?
I vote for Malevich's "Black Square" for my next cake top.

Oh my goodness! A fabulous idea and so beautiful! A logical step indeed! It would have been so hard for me to cut into this cake (though admittedly, cake is a serious downfall for me, so I hardly have it in the house because I can eat the whole thing in two days)! Absolutely exquisite, Ann!

Nice job! I wouldn't have had the heart to cut it either.....

Maybe when you are done with corporate, you can be a masterpiece cake decorator! You could paint your tiramisu painting on a tiramisu cake!

This is wonderful Ann. The first time I did a palette knife painting, I thought of cake the whole time. It does feel like you are frosting a cake so this is the perfect next step.
Personally, I think your cake looks better than the master's original but that could be because yours is making my mouth water. Yum yum!

What a marvellous idea for a cake! You did an amazing job of it. I think I'd like one of Degas' dancers paintings on a cake, or maybe a Group of Seven landscape....

Did the cake taste especially yummy because it was so gorgeous?
