Poetry of the Night
12" x 12"
Oil with palette knives on board
Next up in my series of Provincetown paintings inspired by Marshal Walden's photos is this one, a nocturne. Nocturnes can be difficult to paint. The lighting is completely different than natural light but I was so taken by his photo, I had to give it a try.
The title of the painting is also inspired by what he wrote about the photo…”There’s a moment, once the evening deepens, when the moon slips quietly into view and the world exhales. Silver and blue light dance over the harbor. It’s in this stillness and unspoken calm period that I feel a hidden poetry of the night.”
