This painting shows a scene from Boston's Italian neighborhood, the North End. I was trying to capture the flavor of the neighborhood with it's narrow streets, small doorways, and interesting architecture. In the summertime, you will see residents sitting out on the sidewalk enjoying the nice weather, talking to neighbors, while tourists stroll the narrow streets looking for just the right Italian restaurant to dine. You really can't go wrong with whichever one you choose!
This weekend, we rented the movie The Town, and one of the chase scenes takes place in the North End. It would really have been something to see them filming that because the streets are just not conducive to speeding cars and quick getaways. Only in the movies.

Your city scenes are amazing. I especially like this one.
So cool to imagine the residents sitting outside in the nice weather, something not too common in the city (sitting outside I mean). Too, I didn't realize we had narrow streets in some of our old city neighborhoods. That is very European, which is of course, appropriate. I've always loved reading of the various ethnic pockets in cities...The Irish, the Italian, the Polish, etc. Areas rife with flavor and carrying on traditions that originated in the old country. Wow. Lots of thoughts generated by this one Ann. I love it!
Am seeing more and more artists utilizing palette knives - and love your style Ann. The knife works well inn depicting buildings.

To see palette knife work done so beautiful is a real treat! Wonderful painting. I also love your Maggie who reminds me so much of my Maggie whom I lost 30 odd years ago, but still remember with a sad heart.
