Feeling a little melancholy

I am feeling a little melancholy today. I think partly because of the unexpected news of the passing of a former colleague this week. And partly because I am feeling that there is so much more I'd still like to do with my art, my life, my future.

Ever hear a song on the radio that you've probably heard a hundred times and suddenly you really listen to the words and they speak to you?  That happened to me the other day with this song by Natasha Bedingfield.

Unwritten

Natasha Bedingfield

I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined

I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you

Open up the dirty window

Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance

So close you can almost taste it

Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin

No one else can feel it for you

Only you can let it in

No one else, no one else

Can speak the words on your lips

Drench yourself in words unspoken

Live your life with arms wide open

Today is where your book begins

The rest is still unwritten

Ok-I'm staring at the blank canvas before me, ready to release my inhibitions. Bring it on.

I so know the unsettled, out of sorts, type of feelings, Ann. I hope you are open to new adventures!!

There are times we express, other times we take in, and some times we just pause to reflect. Just ride the wave for now - it will take you to a new place, guaranteed. Love your work - you'll be back at it soon, I'm sure.

Your work is beautiful, Ann, and you will come back to it when your sad feelings resolve. Losing someone we know always makes us realize our own mortality. I have come to realize that sadness and pain are just as important as happiness in making us who we are.
I will be looking for another
wonderful painting of yours!
