Capt Jack's Wharf number 2

Capt Jack's Wharf II
24" x 30"
Oil with a palette knife on Ampersand Gessobord

Mitch saw the first painting I had done of this view hanging at The Red Inn and loved it. It had already been sold so he and asked if I would paint another one for him. I completed this second version while working at The Artists Studio and Gallery at Patriot Place this past weekend. Makes me long for summer to return.

Good Morning again

Good Morning, Cape Cod II
6" x 8"
Oil with a palette knife on canvas board
SOLD

A patron at The Red Inn saw the first painting I did of this sunrise with a SOLD sign on it and loved it so much that they requested to have another one painted for them. When someone commissions a painting I have done before, I often struggle with whether I should look my original source to paint it or from an image of the previous painting. I find I have more success if I work like it's the first time I'm doing it, by looking at my original source material. It is then interesting to look at the two side by side to see how I made decisions the same or differently.

Rediscovering charcoal

This past weekend, while on vacation in the beautiful Nickerson State Park on Cape Cod, Polo and I practiced drawing with charcoal. We bought 3 different kinds that came in several hardnesses. It was really fun and quick to experiment with different marks and shading techniques. It brought back fond memories of art school.

Here are some (not so great) photos from my sketchbook. I can't decide which is my favorite-do you have one?

Red Inn VIII and new gallery space

The Red Inn VIII
Oil with a palette knife on Ampersand Gessobord
12" x 36" x 2"
SOLD
I painted this over the weekend while working at the new gallery space for the Artists Studio and Gallery at Patriot Place. The new space is bright and open-the perfect combination for painting. Below is a photo I took after the first day of painting and then I finished it up the next day. This is the eighth time painting the inn at this size but I've also painted 4 others at a smaller 6" x 18" size as well. I'm pretty sure I could paint the inn in my sleep now!

Here is a shot of my designated wall at the gallery. I like it because people can see my art through the window as they stroll by.
