Inspired by American Horror Story

Haunted

16" x 20"

Oil with palette knives on board

SOLD

I thought it would be fun to paint the house on Commercial Street in Provincetown that was used as the backdrop to the Red Tide series of American Horror Story which aired last year. We've passed by this house many times on our way to the Red Inn and always thought it looked haunted. Now we know why. They were prepping it for the filming of the show!

Here are a few process shots.

Larger Seal paint pour

Curious Seal

12" x 12"

Palette knife oil on acrylic pour

SOLD

On view at Cafe Heaven in Provincetown

I posted earlier about a smaller 6x8 "test run" version of this painting. Click here to see that version. I finally got around to painting the larger version. This was a fun experiment using acrylic paint pour technique to create the ocean background and then painting the seal on top using my palette knives with oils.

Here is a photo showing my process. I had about 7 or 8 different colors of acrylic paint and it was quite messy. I let the paint drip down the sides but kept some of the orange ground color showing which I thought was a nice contrast to the blues.

And here is a link to video I posted on Instagram that shows how it turned out. I am quite pleased with the result but not sure if I'd do this again as it was quite a messy endeavor. https://www.instagram.com/p/CZuVRmbpTIW/

Thoughts of Summer Fun

Ptown Plunge

9" x 12"

Oil with palette knives on panel

SOLD

Last summer when we were visiting Provincetown, MA on Cape Cod, we saw this group of kids diving and jumping off the rocks just off MacMillan Pier. They looked like they were having so much fun so I knew I had to take some snaps so I could paint the scene. I used several images and picked the best poses from each one.

Entering Sandwich

Oil with palette knives on Ampersand Gessobord

SOLD

Next up in my Cape Cod towns is Sandwich. The background shows the famous boardwalk across the marsh-another great place to kayak as well.

I am reminded of a photo someone posted online of a police car from this town. They thought it was funny that it said SANDWICH POLICE in large letters on the side. Don't get pulled over during lunch time!

It's that time of year again when I start prepping for Red Inn season. I've been on a roll painting pictures of this beautiful place and I can't wait for it to open in April when these painting will be hung up for sale. This place offers an endless amount of painting inspiration from the front door to the back deck.

Entering Orleans

Entering Orleans

16" x 16"

Oil with palette knives on Ampersand Gessobord

I am working my way around Cape Cod with the goal of painting all of the 15 cape town entering signs by the summer.

Orleans is a fun place to go kayaking on the Town Cove so that's what I chose to be the background scene for this town sign. You can kayak from the Town Cove all the way out to the ocean. The scenery is great along the way and there is a little island in the middle that is perfect for a picnic lunch.
