Thinking of summer already

Beach Buds

18" x 18" x1.5"
Oil with a palette knife on cradled artist board

This painting was inspired by a photo I saw on a friend's Facebook wall. I hadn't painted any family photos in awhile and I thought this one was just too much fun to pass up. It's bigger than my usual size but I left the white border around the edges so I go back in later to paint in the date.

Sarah-if you are reading this, do you know what year this would have been? And thanks for letting me paint this cute picture.

My uncle sent me some great old family beach photos too. I think I feel a series coming on. And hopefully it will get me through the winter.

Une très belle interprétation... la lumière qui jaillit est extraordinaire... j'aime aussi le titre que vous avez donné à cette peinture.
Gros bisous

This is so beautiful, Ann. I really love when you do old photo paintings. Every single one grabs my interest and is so poignant!

Hi Ann, this is beautiful!! This photo was taken in 1961 at Pear Tree Point, one of two public beaches in Darien, Conn. – on the "kiddie beach" side. I love it!

I think it was very smart of you to use a pallet knife. It added a lot of interesting texture to your composition. The colors are also great. Reminds me of summer time.
